Established in 1998 by founder and director Sheila Pilc, RDE, Moving Miracles opened its first season with only 4 students. Today, Moving Miracles serves more than 150 children, adolescents, and adults of all abilities. We are proud to be WNY's leader in providing quality dance education to individuals with special needs.
Through our full-time, Day habilitation, and Community Outreach programs, Moving Miracles offers classes in tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and creative movement. We also provide an innovative non-ambulatory program for dancers who utilize wheelchairs. Our student body ranges in age from children as young as three years old to adults in their 70s. Many of our dancers have a form of Cerebral Palsy; Autism, Down Syndrome, complex seizure disorders, developmental delays, visual and/or hearing impairments, ADD/ADHD, and behavioral issues.
In 2004, Moving Miracles established its own national touring dance company. The "Company" dancers travel to promote Moving Miracles and share their gifts and talents with a wide audience. Our company dancers have been invited to perform at local events throughout WNY such as Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk, Cradle Beach Harvest Festival, Music is Art Festival, Dance Days of Buffalo 2016 Contemporary Choreographers Showcase, Fredonia State College’s Dancing with the Athlete’s event, National Dance Day, sasi Celebration, Moving Miracles Annual Fall Fundraiser, and Moving Miracles Annual Christmas Party. In addition to these outreach events, Moving Miracles began a collaboration with Stage Door Connections and has hosted Master Classes in studio with performers from Broadway Touring Musicals "Kinky Boots," "Pippin," "Dirty Dancing," "The Little Mermaid," and "Hamilton."
Moving Miracles is also the only program of its kind in the Western New York area to be nationally recognized by the National Dance Education Organization. Our studio director is an active member of NDEO, holds a concurrent membership with the New York State Dance Education Association, and is a member of the National Registry of Dance Educators.
